Great Room Tour
The great room in our house is not huge by any means, but very functional and central. The vaulted ceilings make the space feel larger than it is and the skylights help to welcome lots of natural light. We added faux cedar beams on the ceilings to create a more dramatic. The fireplace was completely redone (see “Before” pictures at the bottom of the page) and the walls surrounding this room were knocked down to create the open concept feel throughout this floor. We decided not to make the TV the focal point of the room, but instead placed it on a side wall above the TV console. A funny story about this console is that I originally bought it as a buffet hutch for the dining room. It was pretty pricey but I really loved the piece. Well, a few months after I bought it we decided to knock down the wall that it was going to go on in the dining room! Thankfully, we were able to find a place for it under the TV and it fits perfect in the great room. Here is a very similar rustic wood console table from Pottery Barn. Enjoy looking around!
The chandelier was the first piece that I knew I had to have for this house! The rest of the design of this floor all tied into the chandelier. It is the Vintage Camino Chandelier from Restoration Hardware. This one is the 50” and in the Iron finish. There are a lot of lookalikes on the market for MUCH less like this one that I also LOVE, but I was pretty set on this exact one. We had a little snafu after the electrician drilled the hole in the beam for the chandelier. The hole was in the exact center of the beam (and room) and once we put the chandelier up we realized that it was hanging WAY too low. Everyone would bump their heads on it. I was really upset because I was not going to give up this chandelier that easily. We came up with an idea to fill that hole and make another one further up the beam at a better height. It was off center which I thought would really bother me, but it really doesn’t at all. I am so glad we kept it and made it work- I really love it in this space!
The recliners in this room are Pottery Barn’s Irving Leather Recliners with Nailheads in the “Chestnut” color. We have had these for about five years and they are still holding up wonderfully (and are the girl’s favorite spots!). The couch is also from Pottery Barn. It is the Comfort Square Arm Slipcovered Sofa 77". The fabric is the “Performance Everydaylinen by Crypton- Home Ivory” I know I am somewhat crazy to have a white couch with two young kids, but y’all this fabric is awesome! It is so durable and really repels spills well and is super easy to clean. I highly recommend! The two arm chairs opposite the recliners below were are currently sold out, but here are some that look just like them.
These ottomans not only complete the space, but also allow two more additional seats in the room- which is perfect for entertaining! They come highly recommended- are a great price and really good quality with a subtle herringbone pattern. All of my pillows are downfilled- these are much more comfy and worth the extra expense. You can find my favorite accent chair window pane plaid pillow covers here!
The rug is from Ruggable is their “Damali White & Black Accent rug” in an 8x10. I have been asked how I like my Ruggable ever since we got it and truth be told, I don’t like it…I LOVE it!! It is SO easy to clean, wipe spills off of and throw in the washing machine. I am a clean freak, so this is TOTALLY the kind of rug I love. It is gorgeous too…looks just like a high quality rug. Our cutout coffee table is perfect under the circular chandelier and brings a lot of interest and softness to the space. The gorgeous scratch vase on the table is perfect for placing a smaller vase inside and displaying fresh flowers (or some good faux olive stems!) We have two of these Ballard Design Table Trays that we move around in between the couch and chairs. They come in so handy and I would definitely recommend if you have the space/need! The fireplace screen is the Lexington Single Panel fireplace screen from Horchow. We got it on a pretty big sale- definitely worth the money as it makes a large statement in the room.
