Over here at The Porche Place, life has been VERY busy. I launched a business (Porche Interiors) in Mid-October and most of my “free” time and focus has gone towards that. During our large home renovation a few years ago, we updated most of the rooms in our house…but one that received very little attention was our Master Bedroom. We originally decided to save money in our Master and use the bedding & decor we had since we got married (almost 8 years ago!) I really didn’t LOVE the way this room looked and it definitely wasn’t super comfy.
The weather here in Atlanta got cold really fast this year and honestly this is what jump started our Master “makeover”. It was time for a change and the freezing temps made me want a super snugly bed & pretty space to slumber!
We started the “makeover” with my husband creating an accent wall behind the bed. We went back and fourth with the trim design we wanted for awhile, but finally decided on a simple board and batten. My husband spent $50 on wood from Home Depot and the install took him about an hour- I can’t believe we didn’t do this sooner!
For our bedding, I had been eyeing Boll & Branch and their gorgeous sheets/comforter sets for quite some time now. I knew the quality was amazing so I pulled the trigger and opted for their Embroidered Duvet Cover set in White (the duvet set also came with two standard shams). Here are the inserts I ordered from Amazon for the shams. I kept everything down filled so the whole bed would be nice and plush! Y’all- I am over the moon with this duvet cover set…It is SO warm & comfy while still being light and airy. I really do think that we are now getting better sleep every night than we ever have. I cannot wait to crawl into bed every night!
Our linen bed skirt is from Amazon and such a great price. It looks wonderful and has held up so well (we have had this for 2 years already!). It is only $35 for a King, so you really can’t go wrong with this. The flannel sheets we bought for the winter are also a STEAL. We washed and slept in them a few times already and they’ve held up so well. I highly recommend this for your winter sheet set. We even bought our girls some in a few of their fun prints too.
I think that a fan is a MUST in a bedroom in Georgia, but I also wasn’t ready to sacrifice a pretty chandelier here- SO this rustic weathered wood ceiling fan was the perfect solution!
In order to break up all of the white but still keep the bed bright and neutral, I opted for these Linen Euro shams from Bed Bath & Beyond. I saw them in a local boutique for 2x the price and was so happy to find the exact ones online for half the price. Here are the down Euro inserts that I put inside them.
The lumbar pillow is huge (which I love) and compliments the warmer white ivory tones in the lampshades. This is Hearth & Hand from Target- super affordable!
I really wanted sconces to upgrade the lighting in this space, but I didn’t want to hire an electrician to hard wire them. I found these gorgeous Adjustable Arc Sconces from Pottery Barn! The bottom pieces are so long that they sit right on top of the bedside tables and hide all evidence of a cord. These are also movable for reading which makes me love them even more. I highly recommend these sconces- they come in two different finishes as well.
The various frames (excuse the lack of real photos yet) and bedside table candles are from Homegoods. This Lee Gallery frame from Pottery Barn is very similar. I found this “wood” ceramic log holder from Homegoods as well- my husband immediately claimed this for his side right when he saw it to put his remotes and wallet in. Here is a very similar one from Houzz.com.
The rug is one of my favorite upgrades in this room. Our previous Jute rug was from Pottery Barn, but it was SO old. We used it in the basement before and people would walk all over it to enter from the basement out to the pool. It was really discolored and I was embarrassed at the amount of dirt that it had collected over the years. I wanted a super soft rug that wouldn’t break the bank. I didn’t want a ton of color, but I wanted something that would add texture and interest to pull the muted and bright tones together. I decided on this Beige and very pale blue Roman Mosaic Trellis rug from RugsUSA. We did a 9x12 in our space! This rug is AMAZING in person. It is so soft and the colors are gorgeous. It is just enough “color” to add some much needed dimension to the space.
The last thing that we did in the space was replace the mirrors above the be with some mirrored photo frames. These were also a great Homegoods find. These Lee gallery photo frames from Pottery Barn are very similar and would look gorgeous above a bed. I found these amazing french architecture printables on Etsy that I printed out and cut for the frames. I LOVE them and for only $18 they really complete the space above the bed. The light blue in the prints also ties in well with the muted blue color in the rug.
I hope you enjoyed our Master makeover and are inspired if your Master needs a little updating. After all, we spend on average 30 years of our life sleeping- so why not make this room the MOST comfortable and pretty :)
