Our Dream Chicken Coop with Carolina Coop

Our Dream Chicken Coop with Carolina Coops

Raising chickens has been something we’ve talked about for years—part homestead dream, part aesthetic vision—and this summer, it finally became a reality thanks to our collaboration with Carolina Coops. Spoiler alert: it’s everything we imagined and more. We moved to our new home in the country in May and I immediately started researching coops. We originally looked at Tractor Supply and Amazon coops, but we knew we wouldn’t be happy with that quality for long. Being an interior designer, I was also dreaming of a coop that matched the aesthetic of our modern farmhouse. I soon began researching more quality and luxurious coops knowing that these would also ultimately add value to our home while also elevating the look and feel of our backyard. After reading the rave reviews about the quality and customer service of Carolina Coops (and they ship quickly!!) we made our decision!

We went with the 6x18 American Coop, and from the moment it arrived (on a single, beautifully packed pallet), I knew we made the right choice. From the quality of materials to the thoughtful design, every detail of this coop was next-level. They included literally everything down to the last staple and even a staple gun—making it fully DIY-friendly. Every piece of lumbar was labeled making building it (for my husband and father a breeze). The build took about three days. Of course, if building it yourself isn't your thing, they also offer white-glove installation services as well.

But honestly, the DIY route was empowering. Painting it definitely took time (I won’t lie, that part was a bit of a labor of love), but the good news is—they’re about to launch pre-painted coops, which is going to make the whole process even easier for future chicken parents.

Why Carolina Coops?

There are a million reasons we fell in love with this company, but here are just a few of our favorites:

  • I originally found them after months of research—comparing options, reading reviews, and deciding that we wanted to invest in quality and have something that would last. Once I came across Carolina Coops, it was clear they were the gold standard.

  • Their customer service stood out from the very beginning. After reading countless glowing reviews, I discovered that you can literally text or email the owner, Matt—and he replies immediately. As first-time chicken owners, that personal support gave us total peace of mind. They even offer site visits to make sure everything is good to go. We truly felt like we were in the best hands possible.

  • Family-owned and made in the USA 🇺🇸

  • Custom or ready-made options for every backyard setup

  • Unbelievable customer service—Matt, the owner, was there for every question, every step of the way along with the sales team!

  • Durable materials like ACRE wood (more on that below), built to last for years

Features That Blow Us Away

This coop is top-tier! We call it our chic coop for lazy chicken owners, because it’s that easy to maintain while still looking beautiful in our yard!! No smells, flies or frequent cleanings!

Walk-in Covered Runs
Spacious, fully covered, and walk-in accessible—this is a luxury resort for chickens.

Ultra-Ventilated Henhouse
A total must in Georgia summers. Our hens are cool, comfy, and safe from the heat.

Predator-Proof Design
With hawks flying overhead daily, knowing our chickens are fully protected gives us total peace of mind.

Deep Litter System
You clean the hen house once a year (if that!) Yes, once every 18 months is recommended. That’s the magic of their deep litter beds paired with their Premium Hemp Bedding—grown and processed in Idaho. It’s ultra-low dust, non-allergenic, and makes the whole space smell fresher longer.

Easy Egg Access
The girls (my human ones) are already counting down to their first egg collection! We love that you can easily open the egg hutch to retrieve the eggs each day- YUM!!

Watering System That’s Basically Magic
This has been a game-changer. It’s a smart, low-maintenance way to keep our flock happily hydrated with clean, fresh water on demand. No spills, no soggy bedding, and best of all—no worries when we travel.

Beautiful, Durable, Thoughtfully Designed

Half of our coop is built with ACRE wood—a sustainable, durable, and maintenance-free composite material made from upcycled rice hulls. It’s stunning and made to last. Think: no rotting, no repainting, no headaches.

We finished our coop using Sherwin Williams Deckscapes stain in Woodridge semi transparent (for the base and flower bed) and Snowbound for the solid stain—it's a perfect complement to our home and truly looks like it was designed as part of the original landscaping.

We Added Our Own Touches Too

Once the coop was built, we made it our own with a few finishing details:

✨ Outdoor string lights for that cozy glow
🌿 Herb planter box + landscaping around the base
💧 55-gallon rain barrel for sustainability
🐔 Chicken swing for a little entertainment
🛡️ Hardware cloth for extra predator-proofing

Standard Features We Love

Every Carolina Coop comes packed with thoughtful, high-end details. Some of our favorites:

  • Dutch Door

  • Free Range Manual Chicken Door

  • ACRE-Lined Henhouse & Egg Hutch
