How to Select the Perfect Fire Table
We frequently get asked about all of the components in our outdoor space @ThePorchePlace! We spend so much time hanging out by our fire table and get LOTS of questions everything this space is posted. In this blog post, i will share details on our specific fire table but also I will go into detail about how to choose the PERFECT one for your outdoor space!
Here is our exact fire table- which I absolutely love and highly recommend. I love curling up out here on a cool night with the fire glowing and a nice glass of wine. I’ve been known to relax out here to jazz music or read up on a new design book from time to time ❤️ We also have frequent family movie nights around the fire. Roasting s’mores is another one of the girl’s favorite fall/winter activities on the porch. Whenever we have friends or family over (especially during COVID times) we always end up outside gathered around the fire table.
I researched fire tables for WEEKS before landing on our specific one. It has 65,000 BTUs (BTUs is the measurement of the heat that it radiates) which covers our entire seating area. It was worth it to me to spend a little more on a quality fire table that puts off a decent amount of heat. Some of the more affordable options have BTUs around 40,000-50,000 which would not have covered our entire seating area. You will not regret investing more for a high quality fire table that your family is sure to enjoy for years to come!
We put together this quick and easy diagram to explain fire table heat BTUs to you. You can use this diagram to know which BTUs are right for your patio space. Generally speaking, higher BTU fire tables will also come at a higher price point.
I also get asked a lot about how the propane tank is hidden. Ours came with a propane tank cover that also doubles as a side table. A lot of the ones we are recommending below come with this as well. We remove the cord that lays flat across the rug when we are not using the table. They do make fire tables that house the propane tank underneath, but these are often too high for conversation and to be in the center of a seating area. I prefer the lower ones with the tank that connects. Even if a table does not come with a tank cover, no worries…it is easy to connect and disconnect those unsightly tanks to move them where you want to store them :) Another pro-tip is look into getting a top custom made (or DIY one!) so your fire table can serve as a regular coffee table during the seasons that it is not in frequent use :)
