We always have SO much fun sharing our design “How Tos” with you all! We love sharing all of our tried and true tricks that we use in our client’s homes for you to take back into your own homes, especially during the holidays.
Today, we're excited to share tips for creating a cozy Christmas living room! We get asked about Modern Transitional styling all the time and how to incorporated it into Christmas decor. It is inviting, timeless and full of interest. Styling a living room for the holidays can seem like a daunting task, but we have a few simple design rules that make it much easier than it seems. YOUR HOME WILL LOOK AMAZING WITH A TIMELESS MODERN CLASSIC SPIN ON CHRISTMAS THAT LOOKS PROFESSIONALLY STYLED IN NO TIME WITH OUR SIMPLE TIPS BELOW!
When beginning to style your living room, keep in mind a few of our best tips such as mixing modern & vintage pieces throughout your space and using objects with character and texture (ex. wood benches and found objects). We also prefer to stick to neutral color tones while adding muted pops of neutral color with pillows and throw blankets to keep the room warm and full of texture and dimension.
Below, we have linked some of our favorite decor items that we like to have on hand when decorating a cozy transitional space. These are all some of our favorite items to use to achieve the Modern Classic look :: books, vases and bowls, artwork, baskets, furniture with clean lines, a neutral rug, wood toned coffee and end tables and decor objects. When selecting these items, it’s important to take measurements of your space to ensure you select items that will fit well in your room. Taking measurements into account will also help you choose items to scale. Consider the items that already exist in your space and if these lend themselves to the style you are trying to create. If they do- keep them and work them in. If they don’t, consider selling and replacing these items so that the space is cohesive with your new transitional theme after you finish designing it. TIP #1:: KEEP MOST MAIN DECOR WHILE ADDING SUBTLE WINTER TOUCHES
KEEPING MOST OF YOUR MAIN DECOR ITEMS SUCH AS MIRRORS, LAMPS, AND BASKETS THE SAME MAKES DECORATING SIMPLE. JUST ADD WINTER STEMS TO YOUR VASES, BRASS BELLS FOR WARMTH AND FAUX LIFE LIKE GARLAND ACROSS THE CONSOLE AND COFFEE TABLE FOR THE PERFECT HOLIDAY TOUCHES AND TEXTURES. ADD YOUR HOLIDAY THROW PILLOWS AND BLANKETS WITH A CHRISTMAS SCENTED CANDLE.
TIP #2:: TRY ADDING A METAL TONE FOR WARMTH AND SUBTLE BRIGHTNESS
USING BRASS BELLS, AND BRASS CANDLE STICKS IN YOUR HOLIDAY DECOR ADDS SO MUCH WARMTH. ADDING THESE METAL TONES IN YOUR HOLIDAY DECOR ADDS A SUBTLE BRIGHTNESS WHILE STILL BEING NEUTRAL AND MAKING A BIG IMPACT.
TIP #3::OPT FOR AN ASYMMETRICAL MANTLE
AN ASYMMETRICAL MANTLE MAKES A BEAUTIFUL STATEMENT. ADDING FAUX GARLAND CASCADING DOWN ONE SIDE OF YOUR MANTLE GIVES A MORE ORGANIC NATURAL FEEL. LAYERING WOOD BEADS AGAINST THE GREENERY ADDS TEXTURE AND DIMENSION. PLACING STOCKINGS TO ONE SIDE OF THE MANTLE ALONG WITH BRASS BELLS CONTINUES THAT ASYMMETRICAL LOOK. ADD DIFFERENT SIZE CHRISTMAS TREES FOR HEIGHT AND TEXTURE ALONG WITH BRASS CANDLE STICKS FOR BRIGHTNESS TO FINISH OFF THE PERFECT MANTLE LOOK.
TIP #4::ADD ORGANIC TEXTURE AND ITEMS OF VARYING HEIGHT
WHILE ADDING BRIGHTNESS AND WARMTH WITH BRASS DECOR ALSO ADDING ITEMS WITH TEXTURE AND VARYING HEIGHT WILL HELP FINISH OFF YOUR CHRISTMAS CONSOLE AND MANTLE DECOR FOR THE PERFECT COZY LIVING ROOM. TERRACOTTA CHRISTMAS TREES OF ALL SHAPES AND SIZES ARE A GREAT OPTION AS WELL AS WOODEN TREES AND CERAMIC TREES. WE ALSO LOVE USING WHITE, WOODEN, OR BRASS HOUSES OF VARYING SIZES. REINDEER, AND NUTCRACKERS ARE ALSO A BEAUTIFUL OPTION FOR ADDING TEXTURE AND HEIGHT.
TIP #5::BRING IN NATURAL OBJECTS AND USE A NEUTRAL SEASONAL COLOR PALETTE
YOU DON’T HAVE TO USE ONLY RED AND GREEN AT CHRISTMAS WHILE DECORATING. USING A NEUTRAL COLOR PALETTE IS BEAUTIFUL AND SIMPLE. MAKING SMALL EASY CHANGES IN YOUR HOME AND ADDING SUBTLE TOUCHES OF WINTER AND HOLIDAY WILL MAKE A BIG IMPACT TO GIVE YOU THAT COZY FEEL.
