How to style bookshelves
How to style bookshelves
We always have SO much fun sharing our design how-tos with you each week. This week we are sharing, “How to style bookshelves”! These trends focus around some of our tried and true tricks that we use in our client’s homes in hopes that you can easily take them back and implement them in your own homes. For our last theme we shared, ‘How to create a timeless kitchen’. You can read that post here.
We get asked about Modern Transitional styling all the time. It is inviting, timeless and full of interest. Styling a home can seem like a daunting task, but we have a few simple design trends that make it much easier than it seems…your bookshelves will look timeless and professionally styled in NO time with our simple tips below!
When considering how to style & decorate your bookshelves there are a few things we like to keep in mind. We like utilizing natural timeless colors throughout our bookshelves so they stay timeless and keep that modern classic feel. We always like to start with baskets on the bottom shelves to ground the bookshelves and also use for storage. Parents, where ya at? baskets are so great for hiding kids toys, games and even art supplies so they are easily accessible but not always out in the open. Stacking books on your shelves is a great way to add functional height and dimension. Whether they are books you have read or antiques you have found or even brand new styling books they will definitely add a classic feel to your shelves. We love to layer in art work behind decorative pieces on the shelves to give a focal point and bring everything together as a backdrop. This can sometimes be tricky because you don’t want your shelves to look cluttered. One or two pieces of art work through out your shelves is a good place to start. Adding some faux or live plants on your shelves adds a lively feel to them while keeping with the neutral yet timeless feel. Lastly, we like to use decorative objects of different texture and materials to create depth and interest. Have some fun with these! They can be objects you have collected maybe from travel, or throughout the years but also they can be items you find new at a store and you just fall in love with.
