How to style your Dresser :: Porche & Co. Tips & Tricks

Today, we are excited to be bringing you a highly requested “How To”! We’re giving you all the tips and tricks for styling your dresser! It can be a space that is overlooked in a bedroom and often not designed in any way at all… We are here to change that — providing you with ways to keep it simple yet cohesive and beautiful! Here at Porche & Co., our goal is to ensure that everyone is able to style their dresser in a perfect way for them!

To give you some design inspiration for your own space, we have styled four different dressers in four unique ways! Each design shows something different placed above the dresser, giving you options to decide what would be best for your space! We have linked all of these options for you down below — which design suits you and your space the best?!

When beginning to style your dresser, keep in mind your space and what style of dresser and decor would fit best. Maybe you are in need of lots of storage and need a larger dresser to accommodate. Maybe your space is a bit smaller… a mirror above the dresser can help a bedroom appear larger and brighter. Maybe the only place to put a TV in your bedroom is above the dresser… We have done all the work for you and provided different options and designs for all scenarios!

Dresser Styling :: Option 1

Do you HAVE to have a TV in your bedroom?! If so, this is the design option for you! We highly recommend a Frame TV because it can double as beautiful artwork! We love how this digital print adds warmth in color and interest for the eye. Below the Frame TV, we kept it super simple with the decor. We chose a round, wooden table lamp for added warmth. We balanced the lamp with a glass vase filled with faux stems and a stack of books with a brass decor object placed on top. Last, we added our favorite Porche & Co. signature candle, because who doesn’t want their bedroom to always smell amazing?! We love this option of adding a Frame TV above a dresser for function but also the beauty and dimension it can bring to a space through digital artwork!

Tip 1: Books are great to stack on your nightstand as a simple way to add functional height and dimension. We also love to stack a bowl, pot, vase, or decor piece on top of books to add interest.

Dresser Styling :: Option 2

Another great option when styling a dresser is with a mirror placed above! We chose a black, modern round mirror to balance out this Modern Classic wood dresser. We then added lots of layers on top of the dresser such as the framed piece of artwork and faux fern plant placed in a vintage pot. We added a large, unique table lamp for some needed contrast and to balance the other side of the dresser. Last, we used two woven baskets with lids for added texture and also functional storage! A mirror is a perfect option above a dresser because it will make your space appear larger, and also provide function in a bedroom.

Tip 2: We love adding realistic faux greenery to dressers. Faux plants or stems create such a nice warm focal point in this space, and also serve to add varying height! We are firm believers that greenery and florals always help create an inviting and welcoming feel!

Tip 3: We love adding layered artwork to a dresser! Grab some of your favorite framed prints or paintings to layer behind items. This will create a nice solid backdrop behind items and a cohesive focal point.

Dresser Styling :: Option 3

We love using a large, statement piece of artwork above a dresser! It can bring so much dimension to a bedroom. For this Modern Classic design, we chose a dark dresser to contrast the abstract framed artwork above. We then styled the dresser with a neutral textured lamp and a grouping of 3 vases - we chose 3 of varying heights, colors, and textures for interest. In the large vase, we used tall faux olive stems to add height and warmth. Last, we added a stack of neutral books, a black decor knot placed on top, and our Porche & Co. signature candle for a personal touch! We love the contrast, layers, and dimension this design brings!

Tip 4: We love mixing in vases and pots when styling dressers! These are such nice soft focal points that can easily add texture, color and dimension to your arrangement. Don’t be afraid to keep styling until it looks right — try shifting around until it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Pro-tip :: try draping bone or glass beads over the side of a vase or bowl for added dimension.

Dresser Styling :: Option 4

Another great option when styling a dresser is to have a gallery wall of frames above it. For this design, we chose four large, simple picture frames which provide a great focal point for the eye. We love how the dark frames contrast against the lighter wood tone of the dresser. For the decor on top of the dresser, we used a neutral grey lamp and a textured bowl on top of a stack of books. To balance the other side, we added a vintage black vase filled with tall dried pampas grass for added texture and interest and a set of brass candlesticks for warmth. We love the cohesiveness a gallery wall can bring to a space above a dresser!

Tip 5: When transitioning home decor to the fall season, dried pampas grass is a great faux stem to use in vases and pots. It’s color, tone, and texture really bring a fall warmth to any space!

Tip 6: Adding a gallery wall above a dresser can bring that personal and homey touch to your bedroom. Two ways to do this is with four larger frames or six smaller frames. With a gallery wall, try using pictures that all have the same tones or by similar photographers for a cohesive look!
