Porche Picks:: Home School Classroom Design + Interior Designer Inspiration for at Home Learning Spaces
As many of you probably know, COVID-19 has caused a lot of unexpected changes in 2020 including how our kids have to learn. Our school district, along with many others, are now going to begin the school year completely virtual, rather than having in-person classes. Because of this, I have decided to renovate our girls playroom area and transform it into their school room! Once a week, we will be hosting 5 second graders and a teacher. We’re trying to stay positive about this new situation while also making it fun for the kids in the process!
For our school room, we wanted to keep it modern and organized, while still being functional for the kiddos. I wanted the colors and decor to be energizing and invigorating. My husband is tasked with building the desks on both sides (but we share our favorite pre-made desk options as you scroll down in this post). In one corner, we will have a reading nook with a hanging swing. Here the kids can relax and take a screen time break to complete an assignment or dive into their latest book! In the opposing corner, we will have a printer station console that has bookshelves and baskets within for added storage for functionality. The rug we chose is from Ruggable, so it’s machine washable and soft enough for the kiddos to relax on at the same time!
The room is already has white shiplap throughout (painted Sherwin Williams Heron Plume) but I will add a fun accent wall in the back painted with Sherwin Williams Olympic Range.
It’s going to be important to have a designated learning space to ensure everything stays organized and promotes a better learning environment for the kids. Below we share our new home school room product details along with other home school classroom ideas and inspiration. Another great tip from my daughter’s teacher was to buy this wireless keyboard case for her iPad (this one is for 7th generation iPads, and this one is for 5th and 6th generations). It converts an iPad into a laptop! This was great for us because my daughter didn’t have a laptop, so this will allow her to be able to have a keyboard and use it for school and classwork. A lot of kids are also so used to navigating iPads, so this will be a seamless way to ensure that they can easily adapt to the tech needs of virtual learning.
