A beautifully designed bathroom is about more than choosing the right tile, cabinetry, and plumbing fixtures. The finishing touches are what bring the entire space together — adding warmth, personality, and that feeling of a room that was thoughtfully designed from top to bottom.
When styling a primary bathroom, we like to look at the space as a whole. Every element, from the shower and tub to the rugs and accessories, has an opportunity to contribute to the overall design.
Here are five of our favorite ways to create a bathroom that feels elevated, warm, and intentional.
1. Make the Shower & Tub a Design Moment
Your shower and tub are two of the largest elements in a primary bathroom, so why treat them as purely functional?
Instead, consider how they can become part of the overall design story.
In this bathroom, the shower is a statement all on its own. The vertical wood-look tile creates warmth and visual interest from floor to ceiling, while the frameless glass enclosure keeps the space feeling open and allows the tile to remain the focal point. The built-in bench and oversized rain shower add both function and a sense of luxury, while the warm brass fixtures tie everything back to the rest of the bathroom.
The freestanding tub creates another beautiful focal point. Its simple, sculptural shape provides contrast against the textured wall treatment, while the wall-mounted brass tub filler adds an elevated finishing detail.

When selecting shower and tub finishes, think beyond functionality. These are some of the most prominent features in your bathroom, so consider how their materials, shapes, and finishes work with the rest of the space.
2. Layer in Natural Texture — and Don't Forget the Rugs
Bathrooms naturally have a lot of hard surfaces — tile, stone, glass, porcelain, and metal. Without softer elements, all of those materials can make a space feel cold or overly sterile.
One of our favorite ways to balance those surfaces is by layering in natural texture.
Wood, woven materials, linen, greenery, and textiles instantly bring warmth and softness to a bathroom. In this space, the wood-look shower tile is balanced by woven towels, a wood bath tray, natural accessories, greenery, and layered rugs.
And yes — we love a rug in a bathroom.
You don't always have to reach for a traditional matching bath mat. A vintage-inspired rug or beautiful runner can make a bathroom feel much more like a finished room while adding color, pattern, and texture.
The key is choosing something that can stand up to the space while complementing the materials already in the room.
Designer Tip
If your bathroom feels a little too hard or cold, start by adding texture. A beautiful rug, woven basket, wood stool, or linen towel can completely change the feeling of the space.
3. Mix Metals for a Collected Look
We love a bathroom where everything doesn't match perfectly.
In this space, warm brass is the dominant metal, appearing throughout the plumbing fixtures, sconces, cabinet hardware, and shower fixtures. Black accents, including the arched mirror frame and decorative accessories, provide contrast and keep the space from feeling overly one-dimensional.
The key to mixing metals successfully is intentionality. Choose one finish to act as your primary metal, then introduce a secondary finish in smaller doses. Repeating those finishes throughout the room helps the combination feel cohesive rather than accidental.

Don't feel like every metal in your bathroom needs to match. Instead, choose a dominant finish and use a secondary metal to add contrast and visual interest.
4. Make Your Mirror & Lighting Part of the Design
Your mirror and lighting should work together — not be chosen as two completely separate elements.
In this bathroom, the oversized arched mirror creates a strong focal point above the vanity, while the simple brass-and-white sconces frame it beautifully. The black mirror frame also introduces a subtle contrast that is repeated in the decorative accessories throughout the space.
An interesting mirror can add shape and architectural character to an otherwise simple vanity. And when paired with thoughtfully selected lighting, it can make the entire vanity wall feel more custom and intentional.
Don't be afraid to go larger with your mirror, either. An oversized mirror can make a bathroom feel brighter and more open while creating a stronger visual impact.

5. Style with Intention — Less Is More
The final layer of a beautifully designed bathroom is the styling.
But styling doesn't mean filling every empty surface.
We prefer to create a few intentional moments throughout the room using a combination of functional and decorative pieces. A beautiful candle, a small floral arrangement, greenery, a wood tray, or a thoughtfully placed accessory can make a space feel finished without making it feel cluttered.
In this bathroom, the styling is intentionally minimal. The vanity remains functional, while a few carefully selected pieces add warmth and personality. The bath tray creates a styled moment on the tub, while textured towels and natural florals soften the surrounding materials.
The goal is for everything to feel considered — not overly decorated.

Before adding another accessory, step back and look at the room as a whole. Sometimes the best styling decision is leaving a little space open.
