the new year is just around the corner…cheers to 2022! to start the new year off right, let’s get organized together! it always feels good to get organized and get rid of all of the clutter that has been piling up throughout the year. tackling these projects can feel a little overwhelming, so we are going to share our top 10 organization tips to help you clear the clutter! we will also go room by room to give you extra ideas for storage and tips for organizing things in an aesthetically pleasing way!

  1. choose one space to begin with

    our first organization tip is to begin in one space. even if you have multiple rooms or areas you want to organize and declutter, choose one to begin with. this will make the project less daunting and more satisfying when you finish organizing that area. you can celebrate that area being organized and move on to the next space.

  2. Let it go

    in the words of elsa, “let if go, let it go!” when you are sorting and going through things, be willing to get rid of things you no longer use or haven’t worn in years. if you forgot you had it, you probably don’t need it. these FRIVOLOUS items add to the clutter and take up valuable space. there are plenty of amazing charities you can donate these items to, and often times, they will even come to you to pick it up. My rule is if I haven't worn something in my closet in the last two years, I am never going to wear it. It needs to be donated to someone that will wear it!

  3. functionality

    this may seem like an obvious one, but functionality is so important. when organizing, make sure that your system is going to be functional for your everyday life. is it a sustainable way for you to maintain organization? Don’t be overzealous or you likely won’t keep up with it and it will defeat the point!

  4. Use empty space

    this tip probably seems obvious, but sometimes we have unused space that could be put to use! consider adding bult-ins for extra storage. add more storage where you can.

  5. create a cleaning caddy

    this one may seem a little unexpected, but cleaning and organization go hand and hand. put together a small caddy with your favorite go-to cleaning supplies to store under the KITCHEN sink (or wherever makes the most sense to you). this will simplify your cleaning supplies and confine them to one space. this will help create an organized station for cleaning and helps everything stay tidy! when you are ready to clean, everything you need is in one space.

  6. create a drop station near your entryway

    this organization tip is a must! we have all been there. we walk in the door with our hands full and everything gets sat down on the counter, on the dining table, anywhere and everywhere…and then…clutter. to avoid this, have a drop station near your entryway that you can put things in like keys, mail, coats, etc. this will help organize those things, and you won’t have to go searching for your keys every time you leave the house.

  7. Put items away immediately

    put items away now rather than saving the task for later. in the end, this one saves a lot of time and comes with a lot less clutter. weather it’s all the new christmas gifts you got or something you just brought home from the store, put it away now rather than later. we all tell ourselves that we are going to put it away eventually, but we get busy and it never gets done. so go ahead and find a spot for it right away!

  8. It can’t all be done in a day

    this goes hand and hand with tip one, but remind yourself that organizing your entire house cannot be done in one day. you will burn out or lose interest, so give yourself grace. it takes time and dedication! Try picking one or two rooms a week- give yourself the entire month of January to get organized!

  9. go paperless when you can

    we all know the mail and bills can stack up quickly, so go paperless where you can. you can set up automatic payments for monthly bills to avoid paper bills. as soon as you RECEIVE junk mail, go ahead and recycle it rather than letting it pile up.

  10. give yourself grace

    our final organization tip is to give yourself grace. it’s so easy to get overwhelmed or compare your home to others, but don’t beat yourself up. getting organized takes time…so Happy Organizing!! You will be SO glad you did!

 
 

christmas decor: un-decking the halls can be a little sad, but it’s definitely easier & more fulfilling when you have organizers! we found some great decor organizers and storage bins that are on sale! taking the time to organize everything into these bins will make it super easy when you get everything out next year!

 
 
 
 

Home office: organizing your home office can help you be so much more productive- this holds true mentally too! we have shared a few essential items for helping you get organized in your home office. i cannot recommend investing in a good planner enough! research has shown that WRITING down your goals and to-do lists increases your likelihood of success!

 
 
 
 

The pantry: organizing your pantry is a bit of a daunting task, but it is so satisfying once it’s done! we recommend using storage boxes to organize snacks, condiments, and even canned goods! having a specific spot for everything will also help your kids & family stay organized too!

 
 
 
 

The living room: this is often a high traffic area, so it’s important to have some functional hidden storage! we love using baskets to store extra throw blankets and pillows. consoles with doors are also great to provide extra store!
