Emily's RV Must Haves- Perfect for new RV owners!

Are you new to the RV life? WELCOME, you will absolutely LOVE it. We have had ours for a few months now and we love both the freedom and memories it brings our family. We are having the best time exploring new places together while staying in the comforts of our own RV. With my Type A personality, I have learned a lot about things you need to have while on the road to ensure a seamless and enjoyable trip for all. Find my TOP 10 must haves below to create a home-like and comfortable RV (ALMOST ALL are from Amazon)…and most importantly HAPPY CAMPING!!

TOP 10 RV MUST HAVES

  1. Water Purifier- I have heard this from multiple people - DO NOT trust the water at various RV parks. I am not usually a filtered water drinker, but on RV trips we love having a safe, trusted, cold filtered water source in our fridge for ease, convenience and safety. This one is under $30 on Amazon and worth every penny.

  2. Beddy’s & 4” Foam Mattress TOPPER- tHE BUNK BED MATTRESSES THAT CAME WITH OUR RV ARE ACTUALLY VERY COMFORTABLE, OUR KIDS SLEEP SO WELL ON THEM! I WISH I COULD SAY THE SAME FOR OUR MASTER BED- THE MATTRESS ON THIS ONE IS NOT VERY COMFORTABLE. FOR OUR KIDS BUNKS, WE LOVE BEDDYS. THEY ARE SO EASY TO MAKE, WASH, AND THEY LOOK SO NEAT AND PUT TOGETHER. THEY CONFORM TO THE SHAPE OF THE BUNKS (EVEN WITH THE ODD DIAGONAL END CORNER) SO WELL. THE CODE ‘PORCHE’ WILL TAKE 15% OFF YOUR PURCHASE AT BEDDYS.COM. ON OUR MASTER BED, WE DECIDED TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL MATTRESS AND GET A 4” FOAM TOPPER WHICH REALLY HELPS IT FEEL LIKE A HIGH QUALITY MATTRESS WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY A BRAND NEW ONE.

  3. Clique Chairs- outdoor chairs are a must for your patio and sitting around the campfire! i saw a neighboring rv family use these chairs and i knew i had to try them out. these clique chairs setup in less than 15 seconds and fold up so easily. they are so compact when they are folded up that it’s hard to believe they are chairs. they are by far our most comfortable chair and the kids fight over who gets to use these. they’re pricier, but worth every penny. if you buy two or more, i highly recommend adding on this carrying case.

  4. Hanging Trash Can & pop-up trashcan- when we took our first trip, i quickly realized we had no trash can! we were shuttling every last thing to the outdoor community trashcan and that got old really fast. THERE IS NOT A TON OF FLOOR ROOM INSIDE OF OUR CAMPER FOR A LARGER FLOOR ONE (PLUS I DIDN’T WANT A TON OF TRASH SITTING INSIDE) SO I ORDERED THIS ONE THAT EASILY HOOKS OVER A CABINET. IT FITS A GROCERY BAG PERFECTLY AND WHEN THAT GETS FULL, WE TAKE IT OUTSIDE AND REPLACE WITH A CLEAN BAG. IT IS ALSO VERY EASY TO CLEAN AND HOSE DOWN IN BETWEEN TRIPS. YOU’LL WANT TO GRAB THIS LARGER POP-UP TRASH CAN FOR THE PATIO OF YOUR CAMPSITE. IT IS EASY TO SETUP AND ZIPS (TO AVOID SCAVENGING ANIMALS & BUGS!) AND CAN HOLD A TON. WHEN IT’S FULL, JUST TAKE THE BAG TO THE COMMUNITY TRASH BIN AND YOU’RE DONE!

  5. Portable Ice Maker- Dealing with ice cube trays in a camper (and with camping water) is hard. one of our best purchases is this countertop ice maker. it is less than $100 and it comes so handy. you can keep it on your countertop or in your outdoor kitchen (this is what we do!). this one is quiet and makes ice fast…and bonus, it is bullet ice!

  6. Command Strips (Heavy Duty)- i tried numerous methods to hang artwork, clocks, etc in our rv and these are the only things that worked! depending on the weight of the piece, i would use anywhere from 4-8 per piece. we have had our rv in extreme heat for a few months now and nothing has fallen!

  7. Suction Shower Caddy- after my first rv shower, i knew i needed more space for shower NECESSITIES- shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors, body wash etc! this corner caddy has amazing reviews for it’s suction ability and they do not lie. it hasn’t moved from the second i put it up and we keep conditioner and shampoo in it all the time (except when it is in tow). this is a great buy for your rv shower!

  8. Outdoor Portable Grill/Griddle- Grilling and camping go hand in hand! we even cook our breakfasts on our outdoor griddle! we love this blackstone for numerous reasons- it is portable and folds up to be really small, it is a well-known quality brand, and it has a decent sized cooking space at 28”.

  9. Keurig Coffee Maker- i love waking up at a campsite and having a fresh cup of coffee waiting to enjoy in the great outdoors. we went with this slim keurig that we can easily store in our cabinets and pull out in the mornings for coffee galore. it is affordable and the perfect size for an rv.

  10. Dish Drying Sink Grids or Mat- i’ll have to admit, i am still getting used to rvs not having garbage disposals…but i am getting really good at hand-washing dishes. we try to use paper products, but for some utensils, cups, mugs etc there is just no way around needing to hand wash a lot when you’re camping. these sink grids easily fit over the sink and create more counter space and drying space! i also love this cloth drying mat that you can pull out when washing a lot of dishes. it easily stores back in your cabinets when you are done.

BONUS:: If you want to install new light fixtures instead of the unsightly ones that come with most RVs, all you need are these 12V light bulbs from Amazon. Easy as that!

You’ll also want to make sure you have a good portable bagless vacuum cleaner for your rv. we charge up our dyson at home and bring it on every trip. i vacuum about 5 times a day (no joke) to keep our rv squeaky clean on each trip!
