Outdoor Lantern Hack :: Easily make your Electric Lanterns look like they are Gas
Do you see those quintessential timeless homes and your eye is immediately drawn to the warmth of their copper gas lanterns? Gas lanterns immediately convey an inviting warmth that welcomes friends and family into the home. So why wouldn’t every homeowner opt for gas lanterns versus electric? COSTS! Running a gas line (especially on an existing home versus a new build) can be very costly. A lot times this cost will not outweigh the want of that real inviting warm flame.
This was the case for us here @ThePorchePlace. Running a gas line to the front of our house and our new garage addition was going to be astronomical. We opted for electric…but my craving for those gorgeous front porch gas lanterns never went away.
I see “faux” gas light bulbs all the time…most of these make my designer heart cringe. They are too fake looking- way too orange, bright, etc. Definitely go for a standard warm E12 bulb verses a bad “gas” copycat. BUT GOOD NEWS, I stumbled upon these AMAZING faux flame electric bulbs. They are more expensive than some of the cheaper fakes, but well worth it to get that desired warm welcoming gas look without the crazy price tag! You can order a 2 pack of the bulbs here & 6 pack of the bulbs here. We went with the frost option versus the mercury platinum lace bulbs. i read that the frosted also give off more light.
All you have to do is remove your existing bulbs and replace them with these! They have two settings, one is a constant flame and another is a flickering flame- I prefer this option as it looks more like a true gas flame.
