How to Create a Magazine Worthy Bed

I think we speak for everyone when we say there is nothing more enviable than seeing a perfectly designed bed in magazines or in store displays. Their fluffy and cloud like comforters, expertly folded throw blankets and quilts, and beautifully stacked pillows make us dream of having one in our own home. Although there are tricks that magazines use, like over stuffing their pillows and comforters to create a plusher look, we have created a list of tips and tricks to help you replicate magazine worthy beds in your own home!

To start, let’s talk about cascading pillows. Cascading your pillows from largest to smallest will help create fullness and dimension on your bed. The size of your bed will determine the number of pillows you should incorporate. The larger pillows that you actually sleep on should rest against the headboard, shams will go next, followed by accent throw pillows. We recommend started with solid neutral colors for the back pillows, and incorporating textures, colors, and prints in your shams and throws. To select the base neutral colors for the linens, chose a color that incorporates colors around found in your bedroom. below is a chart to help you select the perfect pillows depending on the size of your bed!

For linens, remember to select neutral tones to create a clean and pristine look, and using throw blankets, quilts, and pillows to incorporate color and texture into the space. For duvet covers, we suggest choosing a crisp white, a light grey, or linen. For the pillow covers and sheets, we love white or oatmeal. To help create more depth and interest, contrast the color of the duvet with the color of your sheets. If you select a darker duvet, select a lighter linen set or a lighter duvet with a darker linen set. Our favorite picks for linens and duvets:

In order to create a more voluminous and plusher look to your bed, we love folding the top quarter of our duvets and comforters. To add more depth and dimension to your bed, follow with folding your top sheet over the folded portion of your comforter. This not only creates depth, but also creates a cleaner more pristine look to your bed.

Once the foundation of your bedding is set, it’s time to have some fun and add some personality by adding pops of color through your throw pillows and blankets! For the throw pillows, add them by following the cascading technique mentioned earlier. Here is a create opportunity to add more interest and texture to your bed! For throw blankets, we love folding them neatly and having them lay across the foot of the bed. Again, this is going to help add height and volume to your bed, creating a cloud like inviting feel. Additionally, throw blankets are a super simple way of updating your bedding depending on seasons! For spring and summer, we prefer lighter fabrics and colors, whereas for winter, consider bringing in lush faux furs!
