Porche Picks:: Back to School Essentials for 2020
This school year may look a little different for our kids- but as parents, regardless of the situation, we want to do everything we can to help set them up for success! So today we are sharing some of our favorite, affordable items for back to school along with some home school room inspiration (if your school is starting out virtually and you need ideas for your own homeschool room be sure to check out Porche & Co’s homeschool classroom design Blog Post here)!
From the regular back to school supplies to virtual learning essentials, we’ve rounded it all help in one place to make the start of this 2020 school year a little easier.
For Virtual Learning, we reached out to a teacher for tips and advice on essential items that will help facilitate learning from home. Having a specific place where your kids do school work each day will be very beneficial. An iPad/Tablet/Chromebook would also be an essential item to have. A great tip from my daughter’s virtual teacher was to buy this wireless keyboard case for her iPad (this one is for 7th generation iPads, and this one is for 5th and 6th generations). It converts an iPad into a laptop! This was great for us because my daughter didn’t have a laptop, so this will allow her to be able to have a keyboard and use it for school and classwork. A lot of kids are also already very comfortable with navigating iPads, so this will be a seamless way to ensure that they can easily adapt to the tech needs of virtual learning. Compatible headphones are also great to have on hand, so they can hear their teacher during virtual lessons and not distract parents and other children at home.
A timer was another recommendation as there will be many distractions at home, so having a timer to set for tasks will help keep the kids focused and finish it on time. A schedule board is also a wonderful way to help children visualize their tasks for the week and know what is coming up (similar to a classroom in-person school day schedule). A reward board is another great tip for encouraging the kids to finish tasks with a positive mindset; some teachers have these in their school classrooms, so it may be a nice consistent thing to carry into your home classroom. Lastly, an area for the kids to take “brain breaks” was recommended. This area can be filled with puzzles and books to read. For the Porche & Co. Home Classroom, we are going to create a reading nook area with a hanging swing for the kids to relax and take screen breaks. Games, puzzles & books will be on hand in the school room storage cabinet!
