Our Tips for Selecting Cohesive Bedroom Furniture

Out are the days of matching furniture sets, and in their place is modern design of mixing and matching cohesive styles! By mixing bedroom furniture in place of matching sets, you’re adding visual interest to a space, as well as warmth and individuality! However, we get that mixing furniture can definitely be a daunting task. How do you maintain cohesion and harmony in a space? How can you make the style make sense without matching sets? We’ve taken all the guess work out of mixing furniture with helpful tips and tricks so you can mix furniture pieces with ease.

Our first tip is to establish a color palette and select one single piece of furniture to use as a foundation to work off of. For example, start with a unique vintage dresser, and take elements from the piece, such as hardware or metal, material, shape, or color, and use these aspects to select the next piece. If the dresser is square or rectangular, and made of wood with dark hardware knobs or handles, consider a round night stand with a metal frame in the same finish as the hardware on the dresser. These little details will begin to work together to create a harmonious look within the space. Our favorite dressers:

Another help hint is to remember, not every single piece has to be unique. The bigger pieces in the room will draw the most attention so focus mixing the larger pieces; nightstands are smaller and will be separated by the bed so if you go for a matching set, the bed will break up the space between them, allowing them to stand alone as unique pieces and break up monotony. Our top picks for night stands:

With any bedroom, the bed is generally the largest piece, and the main focal point. We love using beds as a way to add texture and an upscale feel to the space. To help further mix up materials and diverge away from the typical wood or metal finishes, we love bed frames with large upholstered headboards. Remember that one way to maintain harmony in the space is through the color palette of the room. Select a bed in a color found within other pieces, but to add further depth to space, choose upholstery in a tone or shade lighter than what is already in the space.
