Porche Tips & Tricks: How to Create a Gallery Wall using Artwork
How to Create a Gallery Wall using Artwork :: Porche & Co. Tips & Tricks
Today, we are bringing you another ‘How To’ that we get questions about very often: gallery walls! Gallery walls are great to use when you have some empty wall space in your home. They are able to serve so many purposes: they can bring warmth to an empty wall, they can bring a personal touch when used with family photos/children’s photos, they can add so much interest to any space, and they are a classic way to make a statement. Gallery walls are often used with photos, but we have recently been loving a gallery wall using pieces of artwork! There are so many amazing resources out there that have curated art printable sets that are ready to go in a gallery! We are all about working smarter, NOT harder… so we love the idea of the hard work being done already with these sets. Many Etsy shops have already put together cohesive prints that balance each other well, so that you don’t have to!
:: Using Uniform Frames ::
When creating a gallery wall, you can’t go wrong with frames of the same finish and size. Keeping your frames uniform will give a very clean, cohesive, and more formal look for a space. This is also a more traditional and classic setup for a gallery wall. There are several ways you can hang these frames, such as two on the top and two on the bottom, three on the top and three on the bottom, or three in one row. Every space is different, so choose the layout that works best for yours. See the examples below of just a few of the many different ways to hang your frames!
When selecting artwork for your frames, try to pick prints that have similar tones and colors in order to bring cohesiveness to your space. The prints should balance each other out, so try a mixture of simple and more detailed, lighter and darker artwork. A great option when selecting art is botanical prints. These prints are very simple, yet they are timeless and still bring a lot of interest in a gallery wall!
:: Using Varying Frames ::
Another option when creating a gallery wall is to use frames of varying sizes and finishes. This will create a more casual and playful look in a space and add lots of character. If your style is more eclectic than traditional, this would be the format for you! When using this format, it’s important to make sure that the frames and artwork complement one another even though you will be using different sizes and finishes. When creating your gallery wall, it is a great idea to lay out the frames prior to hanging them in order to ensure you like the layout. Start with the center or largest piece of art, and work outwards. Try to keep all of the frames the same distance apart in order to keep balance. Below are some examples of gallery walls using varying frames!
When choosing the artwork to go in the frames, try to keep the tones and colors cohesive so that they all balance each other. Similar to the examples below, it’s a great idea to mix some lighter pieces of art with some darker pieces in order to have some contrast in your gallery wall!
There are some great Etsy shops we have linked that create gallery wall sets, so all you have to do is download and print the artwork! there are also companies, such as Framebridge, who can put together the gallery wall for you and you receive the frames and prints in the mail with a easy installation + hanging guide!
