Porche Picks:: How to Hang the Serena & Lily Hanging Rattan Chair
We’ve been showing some behind-the-scenes sneak peaks of our virtual learning classroom/homework room design coming to life over on our Instagram Stories (@theporcheplace), and so many of y’all have asked for the details regarding this swing and how to hang it ❤️ And today, we are FINALLY sharing how we hung this swing (we will be sharing videos over on our instagram stories and we’ll save them to a highlight, so be sure to check out the step by step videos there as well)!
We purchased the swing from Serena & Lily. In order to hang it, we ordered this hardware from Amazon! The hardware is all you’ll need in addition to the swing (and it’s under $30 from Amazon)! It swivels 360 degrees and can hold up to 500 pounds!
Disclaimer: Professional installation is recommended for this swing. We are just sharing the steps we personally took to hang it (with a very handy husband). To get started, we first found the stud in the ceiling and pre-drilled the holes. This helped the bolts go into the stud much easier. You can do this through knocking on the ceiling to find the solid beam in the drywall or even better- use a stud finder! Place the top of the hanging device on the ceiling and mark the center of the bolt holes with a pencil. Next, pre-drill the holes so the bolts go in easier. Now its time to drill the bolts into the hardware and the ceiling (into your predrilled holes). After the hardware was mounted on the ceiling Next, we tied a double fisherman’s knot. Then we attached the carabiner around the middle of the knot. The last step was hooking the carabiner to the hanging hardware, and it was ready to go!
Overall, it was pretty easy. It only took us about 30 minutes to get it installed and hung!
