How to style your Mantel for Winter :: Porche & Co. Tips & Tricks

Today, we are excited to be bringing you a festive, holiday “how to”! We’re giving you all the tips and tricks for styling your mantel for the winter season! It can be overwhelming to know exactly how to style your mantel for the season and there are so many ways to do so… We are here to provide you with three simple yet beautiful ways to style your mantel and give you all the options!

To give you some design inspiration for your own space, we have styled a mantel in three unique ways — each design showing something different placed above the mantel. So no matter what you have in your space, you can easily apply these tips and tricks to your own mantel when decorating! We have linked all of these options for you down below — which design suits you and your space the best?!

Mantel Styling :: Option 1

Do you have a TV above your mantel?! We love using Frame TV’s in spaces because it can double as beautiful artwork! We love how these digital art prints add interest for the eye. On top of the mantel, we added a faux cedar garland draping off of both sides for a pop of color and winter greenery. Brass candlesticks on both sides of the TV bring a warmth to the space without blocking the view of the TV. We draped wooden beads below the faux garland for texture. Last, we added cream knit stockings on one side of the mantel with hanging bells for a festive holiday touch!

Tip 1: Wooden beads or garland are a great way to add interest and texture below the mantel. You can be creative with these beads by weaving them in and out of the faux greenery and they add an extra layer to your mantel!

Mantel Styling :: Option 2

Another great option when styling a mantel is with a mirror placed above! We chose a black, modern round mirror to balance out this white oak wooden mantel. We then added lots of layers on top of the mantel such as the framed piece of winter artwork and faux garland draped across. We left the garland draping off of only one side of the mantel for a more asymmetrical look. We added neutral, textured stockings on the other side of the mantel for balance and contrast. We layered in dark candlesticks for warmth and contrast against the greenery, with faux stoneware Christmas trees of varying height. These elements add so much texture and contrast to this mantel. A mirror is a perfect option above a mantel because it will make your space appear larger!

Tip 2: We love adding layered artwork in front of a mirror! Grab some of your favorite framed prints or paintings to layer behind items. This will create a nice solid backdrop behind items and a cohesive focal point.

Mantel Styling :: Option 3

We love using a large, statement piece of artwork above a mantel! It can bring so much dimension and provide a focal point for a space. For this design, we chose a dark vase filled with faux pine stems for a winter feel with some brass bells to add some contrast to the mantel. To balance the other side, we added two stoneware trees of varying height with a stack of books. We draped pom garland across the mantel for texture and interest and hung linen stockings on one side for a festive element. We love the contrast, layers, and dimension this design brings!

Tip 3: We love mixing in vases and pots when styling mantels! These are such nice soft focal points that can easily add texture, color and dimension to your arrangement. Don’t be afraid to keep styling until it looks right — try shifting around until it is aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
