Our First Christmas in our New Home : A Peek Inside This Year’s Holiday Decor

I can’t believe it’s finally here — our first Christmas season in the new house! Decorating this year feels extra special, and I’ve been so excited to start bringing in all the cozy, festive touches that make our home feel warm and lived in. I wanted to give you the very first look at how things are coming together — from the living room and dining room to little moments in the kitchen, entryway, and even our bedroom.

The overall theme this year is a mix of vintage, handmade, and timeless neutrals — think rustic bells, lifelike garland, and black velvet bows tied throughout every space. It’s simple, classic, and cozy… just how I love it. If you’re looking for modern farmhouse Christmas decorating ideas, we’d love to invite you into our home! Take a look at the photos below — every image is clickable so you can shop our space directly on LTK.

Christmas Decorating Ideas for a Modern Farmhouse

Dining Room : My Favorite Space

DINING ROOM

Our dining room might just be my favorite space to decorate this year. The centerpiece is anchored by a lifelike garland draped along the table, intertwined with vintage rustic door bells (all from Amazon!) and a large vase filled with greenery. I’m still waiting on my brass gold holiday taper candle holders to arrive — I know they’ll pull everything together perfectly.

In the corner stands our 9ft Pre-Lit Artificial Aspen Slim Christmas Tree, also from Amazon. I love that it’s pre-lit — it makes setup so easy, and it’ll last us for years. The tree is dressed in black velvet bows, textured rusty ball ornaments (they actually look like little quail eggs, which I’m obsessed with), and topped with a stunning Étoile Tree Topper.

Underneath, you’ll find neutral brown packages tied with cream velvet ribbons and bells — they’re just for show right now since it’s early November, but soon they’ll be filled with gifts for my girls.

One of my favorite vignettes is the white ceramic house village scene I created on the banquet. It’s surrounded by black bows, garland, vintage bells, and woven wooden trees from Target — it brings the perfect balance of charm and texture.

The Living Room

LIVING ROOM

The living room is another favorite — especially the modern fireplace, which is the true focal point. I draped it in lifelike garland and black velvet bows, and hung cream knit stockings with handmade wooden name tags for each of us. At the end of the garland, the vintage bells hang beautifully, tying the look together.

I added my favorite faux taper candles from Target (they look unbelievably real!) and a few stone-like modern trees for a touch of simplicity. On the shelves, I sprinkled in a few neutral Christmas accents — wooden nutcrackers, soft greenery, and winter scene artwork that instantly makes the space feel festive but still calm and cohesive.

Kitchen, Bar, & Entryway: Subtle Sprinkles of Christmas

In the kitchen and bar area, I kept things minimal but still festive — small garlands, rustic bells, and framed Christmas artwork make it feel cozy without being overdone. The entryway also got a little love with touches of greenery and bells — it sets the tone the moment you walk in.

PRIMARY BEDROOM

Even the bedroom got a few festive touches this year, and I have to say — it completely changed the mood of the space. I draped lifelike garland over the bed and layered in vintage bells for a soft, classic look that ties back to the rest of the house. On the dresser, I added a few simple pieces — including my favorite black reindeer figurine from Amazon — to keep the holiday feel without overwhelming the room.

When it comes to decorating your bedroom for the holidays, a little goes a long way. Focus on subtle details that make the space feel warm and inviting — like swapping in neutral or textured throw pillows, adding a cozy knit blanket, or even lighting a seasonal candle on your nightstand.

MORE TO COME!

This is just the beginning of our Christmas decor this year, but I couldn’t wait to share the first look with you — especially as so many of you are starting to decorate, too! I have a few more pieces arriving soon (and the outdoor decorations are next on my list), so stay tuned for more updates.
